A intervenção de restauro possibilitou a recuperação da integridade histórica do edifício da BN. As novas técnicas e os materiais empregados fizeram reemergir a riqueza de formas e detalhes dos elementos originais.

Após a remoção de sucessivas camadas de pintura, aplicou-se um pigmento mineral que se aproxima da técnica empregada na época da construção do edifício. Colunas e capitéis, emblemas e balaustradas, vidros e ferragens, pedras e elementos escultóricos recuperaram seus volumes e texturas originais, característicos da arquitetura eclética.


Architecture

The restoration effort brought back historical integrity to the National Library building. The new techniques and materials helped surface the wealth of shapes and details on the original elements.

After successive layers of paint were removed, a mineral pigment was applied that comes close to the technique used at the time the building was originally erected. Columns and dossels, emblems and balustrades, glazing and hardware, stones and sculptural elements recovered their original volumes and textures, typical of the eclectic architecture.
