BOTANICS and URBAN

In 1969, as he was invited to take part in an editorial project on the oeuvre of Roberto Burle Marx, Alair added uniquely exquisite photographs to the Botanic series, pieces
that had been designed in the play between light and shade. The publication never came out, but it did serve as a pretext to record other pathways in the city and to also enrich the Urban series, with photographs from the vicinities of the Penha Hill, Guaratiba and Sepetiba, taken on the road to the landscapist’s country home, located
in Rio de Janeiro’s west zone. From the Rio de Janeiro landscapes to the north of Brazil, we point at the beautiful records of the vicinities of the Ver-o-Peso market in
Belém, the capital city of the state of Pará, made in 1970, inscribing Alair Gomes in the best tradition of document photography.
